About

Jamila Gilbert is a visual artist and portraitist living and working in her home state of New Mexico.

Jamila primarily works in watercolors and oil. Regardless of the medium or the height of the brow, Jamila believes that the true alchemy of art happens when humans connect with one another from nothing, a connection that traverses time and space.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Museum Conservation, a Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature, a supplementary major in Linguistics, and minors in Studio Art and Anthropology. Her passion for visual storytelling has informed her professional background in marketing, graphic design, and communications.

Jamila’s approach to bottomless chips and salsa has been described as “inspiring” and “enthusiastic,” and her glass half full outlook on life is improved only when that glass is a dry red. When not in the company of her husband Joel and their rather ancient dog, Jamila can be found savoring life in vibrant southern New Mexico, which she particularly loves for its endless and unobstructed skies.

She works at a spaceline. The only one.
